Floor tile
We never sand, grind or chip asbestos tile, because breaking it up sends dust into the room. Any tile that comes loose easily is lifted out whole with hand tools.
Typical cost in Eden Prairie
MDH lists vinyl floor tile, sheet flooring and the black mastic under them as household materials that may contain asbestos. Each layer is tested first. The positive ones are wetted, lifted and bagged as they come up, until all that remains is a clean subfloor.
We take up floors in kitchens, entries, laundry rooms and lower levels around Eden Prairie, Shorewood and Chanhassen. Houses and buildings with up to four units used to be exempt from the state rules for floor tile and sheet flooring, but Minnesota closed that exemption on July 1, 2021.

We never sand, grind or chip asbestos tile, because breaking it up sends dust into the room. Any tile that comes loose easily is lifted out whole with hand tools.
Sheet flooring is sampled through every layer, the backing included. If the lab finds asbestos, it is cut into manageable strips, kept wet and bagged on the spot.
Adhesive can test differently from the tile above it, so it gets a separate sample and a separate line in the plan.
According to MDH, a floor that is still in good condition can be covered with new flooring rather than taken out. That changes once it cracks or crumbles, because damaged material can release fibers.
A few details shape the schedule.
Going without a kitchen or front entry for long is hard. Let us know which rooms you need back soonest, and we will schedule the work in that order.
The room has to be empty of appliances, furniture and rugs. We tape plastic along the walls and over the doorways before a single tile comes up.
Sometimes a soft spot or an old leak is hiding under the flooring. Once the subfloor is bare we look it over and tell you what we find, and your flooring installer can add the repair to the job.

If you can’t tell what lies under the carpet or the old vinyl, book asbestos testing first. Everything else we do is on the home page.
