Siding on one wall or a garage

Cement siding shingles and old roofing can contain asbestos; MDH names asbestos siding and roof tiles among the products known to hold it. In good condition, MDH says they are best left alone. When a re-side, a new roof or an addition means they have to come off, we remove them wet and wrap them for disposal.
Minnesota’s asbestos rules apply outside the house as well as inside, and in July 2021 the exemption for siding and roofing on houses of up to four units ended. Our exterior work covers Eden Prairie, Shorewood and Chanhassen.

Taking siding off every wall calls for ladders or staging, ground cover all the way around and a set spot for the wrapped stacks.
Asbestos roofing comes off before the new roof goes on. It is kept wet, wrapped or bagged, and labeled the same way as siding.
MDH says damaged siding or roofing should be carefully repaired, and that it can sometimes be covered over. Check local codes before you cover it.

Siding on attached homes can run across more than one unit. We go over the work area with you, and with the association if there is one, before setup day.
Panels are kept damp from the moment they come off. Before they leave your yard they are stacked on plastic, wrapped leak-tight and labeled, and a manifest travels with them to the landfill, which has to be one that takes asbestos.
